The Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade historical society presents historian Brad Bertelli and his program on The Henry Perrine and Indian Key Connection.
Join Brad at the Pinecrest Library at 2pm as he explores the life of Dr. Henry Perrine and his connection to Indian Key. Dr. Perrine sought to live in warmer climates after being accidentally poisoned by arsenic. The event altered his life trajectory, leading him to abandon the medical profession and pursue a career in horticulture. It also introduced him to Indian Key, where his life tragically ended during the second escalation of the Seminole War on August 7, 1840.
Brad Bertelli, a native of Southern California, moved to Florida in 1989 and into the Florida Keys in 2001. Today, he is an Honorary Conch, Florida Keys historian, speaker, and writer. Brad has worked as a museum curator and written several books about the Florida Keys, the local history, and Florida’s favorite cryptid, the Skunk Ape. His history column appears weekly in The Keys Weekly newspaper. Brad lives in Islamorada with his beautiful wife, Michelle.
