The 1921 Scottish Census is Here!
On the night of 19 June 1921 every household in Scotland was asked to fill in the census. The personal information they shared has been kept confidential for more than 100 years.
From 9 a.m. on 30 November 2022 the 1921 census will be opened for the first time and made available on the ScotlandsPeople website and ScotlandsPeople Centres.
These records provide a glimpse of what life was like for people in 1921; where they lived, who they lived with and their occupation. For the first time the census also records where people worked, if children had been orphaned and who was eligible for benefit under the National Insurance Act of 1911.

DNA testing has been a transformative tool for genealogists—allowing you to confirm hypotheses, meet distant cousins, and solve some family mysteries. Depending on your goal, however, it can be difficult to determine which test or tests to utilize, how to interpret your results, understand how the results relate to your paper research, and how to keep your matches and research organized. Using several real-world case studies, this online course will demonstrate how to leverage autosomal, mitochondrial, and Y-DNA results effectively using a variety of tools and organizational methods.
The Henry Perrine and Indian Key Connection
The Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade historical society presents historian Brad Bertelli and his program on The Henry Perrine and Indian Key Connection.
Join Brad at the Pinecrest Library at 2pm as he explores the life of Dr. Henry Perrine and his connection to Indian Key. Dr. Perrine sought to live in warmer climates after being accidentally poisoned by arsenic. The event altered his life trajectory, leading him to abandon the medical profession and pursue a career in horticulture. It also introduced him to Indian Key, where his life tragically ended during the second escalation of the Seminole War on August 7, 1840.
Brad Bertelli, a native of Southern California, moved to Florida in 1989 and into the Florida Keys in 2001. Today, he is an Honorary Conch, Florida Keys historian, speaker, and writer. Brad has worked as a museum curator and written several books about the Florida Keys, the local history, and Florida’s favorite cryptid, the Skunk Ape. His history column appears weekly in The Keys Weekly newspaper. Brad lives in Islamorada with his beautiful wife, Michelle. To learn more about the local history, follow his Facebook page Florida Keys History with Brad Bertelli. To learn more about Brad, visit his website at www.bradbertelli.com

New York City Research: Four Hundred Years of History and Genealogy
Live Broadcasts: November 30, December 7, 14 & 21, 2022
Presented by: Hallie Borstel, Sheilagh Doerfler, Rhonda R. McClure, Melanie McComb

New York City has seen tremendous change over the last 400 years, from its colonial roots as New Amsterdam to its current status as the “City that Never Sleeps.” These changes affected its government, its record keeping, and its people, thus presenting unique challenges for researchers wanting to learn more about their NYC ancestors.
Whether your ancestors arrived during the colonial period or the 20th century, this four-week online seminar provides a century-by-century look at the records, resources, repositories, and research strategies that are essential to exploring your NYC roots. We will also discuss the historical context, settlement patterns, and migrations into—and out of—the city. Note: This course will cover the five boroughs of New York City.
This course includes four 90-minute classes, exclusive access to handouts and recordings of each presentation, and in-depth Q&A sessions with the instructors.
